Biography

Herb’s dedication to his clients has led to his representation of two and sometimes three generations of small business owners and members of their families in business and personal matters. His loyalty and care for them has led to their belief in his ability to assist them in serving their continuing legal needs.
Herb, the first in his family to go to college, is a graduate of Union College, where he earned entry to Phi Beta Kappa and went on to earn his law degree at the Yale School of Law. After time working in administrative law in the corporate sector, Herb returned to his native New Jersey to do corporate litigation in a large firm and then as General Counsel to a large privately held, muti-state corporation.

He and his wife Sheila raised their three children in Oakland as he built his private practice. In 1972, after partnership in several substantial group practices, he started his solo practice in Glen Rock and in 1988 was joined by daughter, Deb.

Herb’s practice includes assisting clients in business transactions including formation, acquisition, sales and development. contract review in all types of business areas, including transportation, computer system development, home construction and development. He has represented professional clients in the medical, mental health and dental fields, physical therapists, and nursing home owners, as well as non-profit entities. His business practice has taken him, on occasion, to Puerto Rico, the UK, China and many US locations. Among his diverse current business clients are a firm providing chronic care information for medical practices in several states, a firm providing bidding services for school districts in the metropolitan area, a national bakery cooperative representing major commercial bakeries across the US, and a firm providing respiratory therapy services to nursing homes in a multi-state area.

Herb has taught Small Business Law at Fairleigh Dickinson University, taught Small business formation for New Jersey’s ICLE to new bar members and is a frequent attendee at the annual meetings of the American Society of Association Executives and Association Management Company Institute, where he hones his knowledge of nonprofit management and governance law.

Herb continues to reside in Oakland with his wife, Sheila, the owner of Total Management Solutions, an association management company. When not at their desks, they spend time in Tucson , Arizona and nearby Tempe, with their grandson, Sam, a fan of the weather and Minecraft.
